Studio GBM play a part in the pairing programme between Limerick & Germany
The EU Presidency County Pairings Programme has paired every local authority area in Ireland with a specific EU Member State to run public events, business events, school visits, and cultural exchanges during Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July to December 2026.

In March 2026, we sat down with the Director of Services for Limerick City & County Council, the Head of Business Development for Shannon Foynes Port and the Professor of German Studies and founder of the Centre for Irish German Studies in UL in the Hunt Museum café and, over soup and sandwiches, we went about developing a programme that would highlight the rich seam of connection between Limerick and Germany to date and would forge new and deeper connections in the future.

For the official launch of the pairing programme on 1 July 2026, Studio GBM designed and produced a German Art trail in Limerick with MIC, UL, CIGS, LCGA and the Hunt Museum.
We produced four venue guides plus an overarching guide linking them and highlighting German traces.
Mobility and Limerick’s Smart City sustainable transport plan were considered with collaboration from Limerick City & County Council.
Art Trail leaflets are available online at Limerick.ie, Tourism Ireland and in the venues themselves.
This trail will remain in place in perpetuity.
The next collaboration was with the German Embassy in Dublin, the Irish Embassy in Berlin and the Irish Consulate in Frankfurt to produce and manage The Irish Palatines Story exhibition in Limerick, a project comprising nineteen roll-up banners presented in both English and German. While the Limerick exhibition will travel between libraries, colleges, universities, secondary schools, museums and theatres across Ireland, its twin in Germany will follow a similar touring programme, visiting comparable cultural and educational venues. This six month programme is a true collaboration piece. Spanning culture, sport, commerce, academia, craft, history, trade & investment, festivals and Christmas; every stakeholder involved has given to create a countywide Limerick embrace of Ireland’s EU membership and the further development of our German Limerick links.
And do Limerick have the best pairing programme in Ireland .. 100%
